Are Members screened? Am I safe while out and about with Members?

Yes. All new Members are called personally by our team in order to understand their background and how we and our Heroes can best support them. If possible, we also contact their direct support network such as their family or Support Coordinator to assure that you have all of the information that you need prior to meeting our Members. 

Are Members and Heroes covered by insurance during bookings?

Yes! We have Public Liability, Professional Indemnity and Personal Accident Liability Insurance in place with an A-rated insurer. 

This assures our Members and Heroes can rest easy knowing that while out and about in the community, if an emergency situation arises they will be supported. 

Please note, our insurance policy does not cover those below the age of 18 years old unless they are in the presence of a parent or guardian. 

What does and doesn’t the insurance cover?

Our insurance covers you while performing all approved duties of a Hero. Our insurance will not cover you if you perform anything outside of that, including but not excluded to the following:

  • Climbing ladders
  • Using machinery (i.e. Chainsaw or a Whipper Snipper)
  • Personal Care
  • Medication Dispensing

If I don’t feel safe while with a Member or in a Member’s home, what do I do?

We do not expect you to enter any situation in which you don’t feel safe. 

If you are at direct risk, remain in the vicinity of the Member and if necessary, call Emergency Services. You then need to report the incident to our team. 

If you are not at direct risk but feel uncomfortable in a specific situation, please communicate this with the Member and/or the Member’s primary contact as well as the Home Care Heroes Team.
